Your First Week With a Topper: A Quiet Roadmap
February 6, 2026 · 7 min read
The box arrives. You open it in the kitchen because that is where the good light is. The hair is in a satin bag, folded on itself like something you would unwrap slowly.
Day one: just hold it
Take it out. Brush it with your fingers from the ends up. Try it on without clipping it in. Look in the mirror for ninety seconds. That's it. Put it back in the bag. You're done for the day.
Day two: clip it in
Tease a small section of your own hair at the crown — gentle backcombing, just enough texture for the clips to hold. Open all the clips. Place the topper, front clip first, then back, then sides. Press the clips closed against your scalp. Brush your own hair over the front edge to blend.
Day three: wear it for an hour
Inside the house. Make coffee. Answer email. Notice it. Notice that you forget about it.
Day four: leave the house
Somewhere low-stakes. The grocery store. A walk. Nobody is going to say anything. Nobody is looking as closely as you are.
Day five: style it
Curl the ends with a low-heat iron. Run a little oil through the lengths. Tuck one side behind your ear. This is when it starts to feel like yours.
Day six: take it off
Brush it gently. Spritz the lengths with a leave-in conditioner. Hang it on a stand or fold it into the bag. Sleep on your own hair. Real human hair toppers last longer when they rest.
Day seven: forget you're wearing it
That's the goal. Not transformation. Just a Tuesday morning where your hair is one less thing.
